Little Roo Roo maintains its ascent

With a campaign of eight starts and five victories, the chestnut colt Little Roo Roo (Limehouse) is poised to establish himself as a formidable sprinter. Tonight, the celebration was once again complete for Michael Jones who, as trainer and owner, enjoyed another success for his pride and joy, the second in a row, today at the It’s Only Money Stakes (4 1/2 furlongs, dirt, $75,000), all achieved at Charles Town racetrack.

The challenge was tough, as the horse bred by Sherwood Bryant faced seven other specialists in the starting gate. However, there was no doubt about the talent of the horse guided by Marshall Méndez, as the Puerto Rican jockey placed him in pursuit of Golden Key (Uncle Lino) and overtook the highly regarded Penguin Power (Fiber Sonde).

A key factor in the race was the youthfulness, a divine gift for Little Roo Roo, which allowed him to receive up to seven pounds from his rivals.

When the moment of truth arrived, Little Roo Roo burst forward and positioned himself on the outside of the leader, breaking away from Golden Key close to the finish line, with Penguin Power closing strongly to secure third place in a race that didn’t offer many alternatives. Those were the three horses that defined the feature race of the meeting, with a time of 51″17 seconds for the 4 1/2 furlongs.

It was a job well done by Michael Jones and Marshall Méndez, who teamed up to bring this horse to the top, surpassing the $200,000 mark. Méndez added three victories this weekend, bringing his total to 63 wins for the season, firmly holding the second spot in the jockey standings, while Michael Jones secured two victories, reaching 20 wins in 2023. Both stakes wins were achieved with Little Roo Roo, his current standout performer on the circuit located in West Virginia.

Con campaña de ocho salidas y cinco victorias, el alazán Little Roo Roo (Limehouse) está llamado a consolidarse como un fortísimo velocista. Al momento de la verdad, Litte Roo Roo irrumpió con fuerza y se colocó abierto del puntero y así pudo quebrarlo a 100 metros del final, sobre Golden key, y cerrando fuerte  Penguin Power como tercero en una carrera que no trajo mayores alternativas, fueron los tres definidores en la estelar de la reunión con tiempo de 51”17 para los 4 1/2 furlongs.

Buen trabajo de Michael Jones y Marshall Méndez, quienes se combinaron para llevar a lo alto a este ejemplar que ya sobrepasó la barrera de los 200 mil dólares. Mendez sumó tres este fin de semana, totaliza 63 triunfos en la temporada, firme como segundo en la tabla de jockeys y Michael Jones con dos éxitos y ya alcanzó 20 fotos en este 2023, el segundo stakes, ambos obtenidos con Little Roo Roo, su actual carta de presentación en el circuito ubicado en West Virginia.
