Gilded Quest thrived in the lead, glitter night for Axel Concepción and Ronney Brown

Amidst a field of only six competitors, and with the apprentice Axel Concepción on board, everything favored Gilded Quest (Gun Runner) to claim victory in the Maiden Special Weight race held tonight as the third race at Charles Town on Thursday.

On a wet track, due to incessant rain that started in the morning, the chestnut filly owned by Richard Marcotriaglano and trained by Ronney Brown positioned herself in pursuit of Linda’s Taj, who set the pace with a time of 23″23 seconds for the first quarter-mile, while Somebody Loves Me, the favorite, lagged far behind in the early part of the race.

At the halfway mark, apprentice Axel Concepción placed Gilded Quest alongside Linda’s Taj, who was running along the rail. From there, with a time of 47″75 seconds, the filly from Ronney Brown’s stable started to assert her superiority, while Somebody Loves Me closed in from the outside as they entered the homestretch.

With the advantage Gilded Quest had built, Somebody Loves Me could do little, as that final stretch of only 200 meters sealed the victory for the ride by Axel Concepción, with nearly a length of difference over the rival, and a further distance to Linda’s Tap. The race offered few alternatives and concluded in a time of 1’28″36 for the 7 furlongs.

This filly has a luxurious pedigree, being a daughter of Gun Runner (Curlin), who had an illustrious career on the track and has become a successful sire. Her dam is by Speightstown, a formidable sprinter and the sire of Charlatan, among others. Furthermore, her maternal lineage traces back to the Canadian champion With Approval (Caro). Considering her modest record of only one win in 15 starts, given her pedigree, it can be expected that she may achieve better performance or even prove to be a valuable broodmare prospect for her connections.

As for the race day at the West Virginia circuit, it was particularly shining for the duo of Ronney Brown and Axel Concepción, who also combined with Prince Of Fenton (Cairo Prince), cruising to victory in a $5,000 claiming race with an impressive time of 1’26″32 for the 7 furlongs.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old Puerto Rican apprentice rider continues to accumulate victories in his debut season, reaching nearly 70 wins. Ronney Brown, on the other hand, who recently celebrated his 3,000th career victory after 36 years in the industry, also excelled with three wins, concluding the day with Windsor’s Tracker (Windsor Castle) triumphing in the sixth race of the meeting. He remains among the top three trainers at Charles Town.

It’s worth noting that Axel Concepción achieved a hat-trick of victories in consecutive races, as in the fourth race of the day, he guided Howsafearemycolors (Mosler) for the stable of David Walters, showcasing his skills, energy, and ability to ride racehorses. A promising future awaits this young talent hailing from the enchanting island of Puerto Rico.

Gilded Quest se creció en el comando

En medio de un grupo de apenas seis competidoras, y con el descargo del aprendiz Axel Concepción, todo favoreció a Gilded Quest (Gun Runner) para anotarse el éxito en el Maiden Special Weight, disputado esta noche, como la tercera de este jueves en el Charles Town.

En una pista mojada, producto de una lluvia incesante que inició desde la mañana, la alazana propiedad de Richard Marcotriaglano y de Ronney Brown, quien también es su entrenador, se ubicó en persecución de Linda’s Taj, que enseñó el camino en 23”23, para el primer cuarto de milla, mientras Somebody Loves Me, la favorita, cerraba el camino bastante alejada en la primera parte del recorrido.

A mitad de carrera, el aprendiz Axel Concepción colocó a Gilded Quest al costado de Linda’s Taj, que accionaba por los palos. A partir de allí, en 47”75, la del establo de Ronney Brown comenzó a mostrarse superior, mientras Somebody Loves Me descontaba terreno, abierta, al ingresar a la recta de las emociones.

Ante la ventaja que hilvanó Gilded Quest poco o nada pudo hacer Somebody Loves Me, pues ese tramo final de apenas 200 metros, terminó por sellar el éxito de la conducida por Axel Concepción, casi un cuerpo de diferencia sobre su rival, y más distante Linda’s Tap, en carreras de pocas alternativas que concluyó en 1’28”36 para los 7 furlongs.

Lujoso origen el de esta hija de Gun Runner (Curlin), tan glorioso en las pistas como reproductor, en madre por Speightstown, formidable sprinter y padre entre otros de Charlatán. Mientras que la línea materna de esta potranca nos lleva hasta el campeón canadiense With Approval(Caro). De manera que las modestias en la campaña de apenas un triunfo en 15 salidas, de acuerdo a su origen, puede esperarse un mayor rendimiento o una salida como futuro vientre de valía para sus conexiones.

En cuanto a la jornada en el circuito de West Virginia, fue de brillo precisamente para la dupla de Ronney Brown y Axel Concepción, quienes también se combinaron con Prince Of Fenton (Cairo Prince) que galopó en un claiming de 5 mil dólares y en buen registro de 1’26”32 para los 7 furlongs.

Mientras que el aprendiz boricua de solo 17 años, sigue sumando en esta primera temporada, ya al borde de las 70 victorias.Ronney Brown, por su parte -quien recientemente celebró 3 mil triunfos de por vida, luego de 36 años de trayectoria- también se lució con tres al completar la jornada con el éxito de Windsor’s Tracker(Windsor Castle) en la sexta de la reunión. Sigue firme entre los tres mejores de Charles Town.

Por cierto,Axel Concepción, alcanzaba triplete en carreras consecutivas, pues en la cuarta de la jornada, guió a Howsafearemycolors (Mosler) para el establo de David Walters, demostrando sus buenas maneras, energía y tacto para conducir caballos de carreras, enorme porvenir para el nacido en la isla del encanto, Puerto Rico.
