Sax opens the evening for Peruvian trainer Alfonso Arias

It was the beginning of the scheduled day with nine races at Charles Town, West Virginia. A large field, ten participants for a claiming race over seven furlongs, where Sax (Jimmy Creed) managed to win – if you will – in a modest field. However, it is a step forward in the particular journey of Peruvian Alfonso Arias in this attempt in the United States.

A mare that had already offered him a victory in December of last year, in a similar field, under his training but with different colors. Then, the chestnut mare faced some issues, where patience was key to not discard her, and a new triumph came six months later.

In total, she has achieved 5 victories in a campaign of 29 starts for this Kentucky-bred horse, naturally with a good pedigree, for which other hands paid $95,000, breaking her Maiden Special Weight at none other than Churchill Downs.

Today she overcame a difficult start, coming from last and advancing firmly under the guidance of another Peruvian, Fredy Peltroche. Despite a slight stumble when starting her charge and finding herself near Miss Wild’s legs, she maintained her pace, wide on the track, and closed with a sustained rally to beat the favorite, Centerfold Angel (Snapy Halo), in 1’28″55 for the distance on a wet track.

In some way, this also reflects the stage taken on by Alfonso Arias, who celebrated only his second victory this season. And his eighth at the Charles Town racetrack. These numbers are distant from a trainer who, in his country, was a winner of three Derby Nacional (G1) races and over three thousand races, with the prestige of being a top professional and also a veterinarian. But, just as Sax was able to make a strong finish, this experience also reveals the drive of the Peruvian in a story that is only just beginning.

Era el comienzo de la jornada pautada con nueve competencias en Charles Town, West Virginia. Lote numeroso, diez participantes para un claiming sobre siete furlongs donde logró vencer Sax(Jimmy Creed), ganadora – si se quiere- en lote modesto, pero es un peldaño en el camino particular del peruano Alfonso Arias, en este intento, en Estados Unidos.

Una yegua que ya le ofreció una victoria, fue en diciembre del año pasado, en lote similar, bajo su entrenamiento pero, con otros colores. Luego, la alazana confrontó algunos problemas, donde la paciencia fue clave para no desecharla y vino un nuevo triunfo, seis meses después.

En total son 5 victorias en una campaña de 29 salidas en esta nacida en Kentucky, desde luego, de buen origen, por la que otras manos pagaron 95 mil dólares, rompiendo el Maiden Special Weight nada menos que en Churchill Downs.

Hoy sorteó un comienzo difícil, al venir última y avanzar con firmeza, en el rigor de otro peruano Fredy Peltroche. A pesar de un leve tropiezo, cuando iniciaba la carga y se encontró en las patas de Miss Wild, siguió su ritmo, abierta, para cerrar con sostenido remate sobre la favorita Centerfold Angel(Snapy Halo) en 1’28”55 para la distancia en una pista mojada.

De alguna manera, también refleja la etapa asumida por Alfonso Arias, quien celebró apenas su segundo triunfo en esta temporada. Y octavo en la pista de Charles Town. Números distantes de un trainer que en su país fue ganador de tres Derby Nacional (G1) y más de tres mil carreras, con el prestigio de ser un profesional de primera, además veterinario. Pero, así como Sax pudo atropellar, esta vivencia también asoma el empuje del peruano, en una historia que apenas comienza.
